Coos Bay is a small rural area that is close to the beach, great hiking spots, and lakes. There are lots of nice people in the area and decent schools. It would be nice to have more shopping opportunities, and healthcare and better gas prices. It’s nice to sit at home by the pond and read a good book.

The Oregon beaches are absolutely breathtaking! So much to do on the coast from visiting the Redwoods to riding the dunes.

It's a place to work for me. Lots of issues with this town you can see by driving around. Some areas are clean but alot of homes or properties have trash or look like a dump. The sheriff's and police are worthless. They don't even show up for property crime. Lots of minimum wage jobs 13 hr but any decent paying job you better know someone. I got paid double at my old Oregon job in the medford area vs what the local employer wanted to offer me ( fun fact they still looking for an employee )
Homes are cheap cause they are rotting or cash only sales.
Lots of people homeless sleeping on sidewalk in empire district. Found a few squatters in homes I've checked on for customers but the cops won't help, so the home got trashed.
People dump trash in random places or down embankment
Lots of gun violence with shootings happening weekly it seems. The gun violence seem to be felons in possession and aggravated assaults.
Let's not even talk about the trump lovers here

Coos bay has everything you could ask for in a smaller town, all of the name brand stores with lots of little extra places to go for your needs. Whether dining out or having a picnic on the beach, you can find it all here!

A lot of people in Coos Bay are very conservative and close-minded when it comes to anyone who isn't white, straight, cisgender, and Christian.

I was born and raised in Coos Bay. I still reside there as well. I would definately recommend it to anyone who wants small town life. Although, I would say that you should be very outdoor-oriented.

Coos bay has excellent views, access to the ocean and history. There's niche things to do, mostly outdoor activities. In the process of changing from logging area to tourist area.

I've visited before I moved here, and I've lived here for almost 5 years now. The town is literally rotting. There's no money. EVERYONE is mean and my mental health is massively suffering for it. Seriously, if you're ANYTHING other than a cis/het white man, prepare to be actually bullied every time you step out of the house. Speaking of mental health, there's little to no services for mental health care here and most of the people hired for it are ableist and other forms of bigoted. The prices of everything are EXPENSIVE, as the predatory business owners here specifically try to target retirees and tourists. The cops don't do anything but pass out traffic tickets and bully the homeless people, who are EVERYWHERE, on drugs, and highly territorial. I'd rather live in a dumpster behind a Wendy's. Good for a visit, that's about it. This town needs to cease existing, if you ask me.

This is a honest review.
I moved here from Portland to get away from the craziness.
We are in our 40s. There is zero nightlife here. Meaning no dancing, clubbing, or anything of that sort. I am not into that but if you are skip it. It’s no good for kids because again there’s no outdoor activities because of the weather.
Most people here stay to themselves, stay inside, and don’t really hang out . We have lived here for 2 years and bought a house but we are already thinking about selling and getting out of here.
Why?
Health care is HORRID here I mean the worst you can imagine.
No doctors here are taking new patients so you have to drive two hours away or even four hours away to Portland.
It’s a major crisis here and they should be transparent to home buyers here. They also cater to low income families and are busy building low income Buildings in the middle of nice neighborhoods that are bringing down house prices because of it.
The allergies are INSANE.

So far it’s pretty good. I just moved here two weeks ago. I do wish it had a larger population, and a bit more things for younger adults to do (they have a community college here so you’d think that would be the case) but overall it seems nice so far.
It’s definitely more diverse than we’re I used to live, but at the same time it seems like there are many people who look and act the same. It also seems like it’s very large, but at the same time it feels very small as well. This place is a bit contradictory, and it confuses me a lot. Hopefully more people my age come here.

This place is such an up-and-comer! Been here going on two years and I can’t believe people aren’t moving here in hoards. The beauty is absolutely unmatched, there is no traffic, pristine in crowded beaches all around and a new place to explore nearby every weekend! There is a very good emerging food scene. More young professionals moving in. Downtown revitalization. New development along the bay front. In 20 years this will be a resort town. Only drawbacks are the lack of shopping and rising home costs. When people say there is a large homelessness/drug use population here they are speaking without a frame of reference. You see the same faces in the same areas of town, it is not out of control by any means, especially coming from Portland. People just aren’t used to seeing these things out in the open in a small community, so it stands out more. Better public transit and social services/general infrastructure is needed here, and it’s improving all the time.

If you are moving here, make sure you need no medical attention. You can't find a doctor within 2 hour drive. I have searched for 2 months, talk to a doctor here and he said you have to drive to Eugene which is 2 hours away. Moving as soon as possible. Also, it's pretty trashy and I've contacted the city but there are not concerned with the trash in town. There are no Kohl's, Macy's, or any shopping. You get a walmart and Bi-Mart that's about it. I feel like I'm in the 19th century. The recycling is horrible, they really don't have much of recycling. no cans just a small box and they throw most of that back in your trash cans. Their recycling programs sucks.

bought a house in Bayview area on the water and way too many homeless tweaker druggie living in the bushes all over town. Most trails around here have people living on them. Lots of Walmart begging for change. Yes cheap homes 340k for 2900 sq house with bay/ocean view but its typical dirty and not clean like Bandon area of the coast. I see why most ain't happy living in coos bay
You will see lots of Trump flags and people shot guns everywhere here

I actually live in an unincorporated area called Bar View and moved here 6 months ago. It is right before the Charleston harbor/Marina. I purchased a home on three acres which I fenced off and can let my dog loose. There is a visible homeless population here and meth seems to be the drug of choice. It does not impact me much but I'm always vigilant when out in public. This is the biggest town on the PNW coast and it has a good hospital. For me the level of care is better than what I experienced in California. Real estate is much cheaper here when compared to Bandon or Florence... about 20%. As for shopping there is a Ross, Walmart and a couple of chain grocery stores (Safeway, McKays and Fred Myers. There are also a few hardware stores . Outdoor activities abound (hunting, fishing, clamming, crabbing). I don't know anything about the schools here but this is a blue collar town. If you are a cultured person who doesn't enjoy the outdoors you need to look elsewhere.

I moved to Coos Bay about 6 years ago. I was in awe of how drastic you could tell a difference in air quality!! I Love how the beach is 15 minutes away and if you wanted to go to the mountains they are very close as well! Coos has many different kinds of opportunities and I’m blessed to be a part of this community!

The weather in summer is beautiful and water in parts is stunning. That is it. There is homeless camps on every street corner and even where schools are. Drugs have taken over. My kids seen stuff they should never see at young age. Portland keeps shipping more and more druggies and homeless weekly here. It's awful. Now looking to move elsewhere.
