Job Description Summary

The instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning,preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instructionand related activities during the day, evening, or weekend viainstructional delivery formats to include face-to-face, hybrid,online, and remote. Face-to-face and hybrid classes may be offeredon any Prince George’s Community College campus, or at off-campuslocations. The instructor must remain current in the disciplinearea and continually explore teaching methods and strategies toengage learners, organize and plan instructional content thataccommodates diverse learning styles, and devise appropriateassessment tools that monitor student learning outcomes. Theinstructor is also responsible for participating in relatedactivities to include professional development, academic advising,curriculum design.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required

  • This adjunct faculty position requires a combination ofeducation, training, credentials, and/or experience that meets theneeds of the Social Sciences department
  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Psychology or a relateddiscipline is required
  • Official documentation of credentials and degrees is required;degrees are recognized only if earned at an accreditedinstitution.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching in a Psychology-related discipline at thecollege-level courses in the discipline is preferred
  • Experience teaching in a variety of modalities (i.e.face-to-face, synchronous remote, and asynchronous online) ispreferred
  • Willingness to teach in non-traditional formats (online,remote, hybrid) and settings (off-campus, weekends, evenings andaccelerated) is preferred.
  • Other requirements as needed for the discipline

CRITERIA : The following criteria, which are not the solecriteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to reviewthe applications of those persons who meet the stated minimumqualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will beinterviewed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Plan, organize, and teach curriculum content in conjunctionwith course outcomes.
  • Using applicable technology and andragogical principles, teachcourse content via an appropriate delivery format (may includeface-to-face, hybrid, online, and remote instruction).
  • Complete mandated institutional trainings and professionaldevelopment as required
  • Follow department and division requirements for preparing acourse syllabus
  • Facilitate appropriate instructional activities that promotestudent engagement and learning.
  • Evaluate student performance using assessment tools as directedby the department; inform students in a timely manner of theirprogress
  • Create and administer assessments that monitor studentprogress; provide timely student feedback.
  • Provide an orientation at the first- class meeting to include(as applicable) an overview of the course syllabus, an outline ofcourse objectives, course requirements, attendance policy, gradingsystem, textbook(s), and supplemental materials.
  • Notify students of key dates and course adjustments
  • Comply with attendance and grading requirements as establishedfor the course (may include maintaining an up-to-date electronicgrade book, and entering final grades by the established duedate).
  • Maintain accurate class records; submit required class recordsby the established due date
  • Participate in departmental evaluation and course assessmentprocesses as directed.
  • Follow department and division requirements for maintainingoffice hours, advising students, and referring students toappropriate resources.
  • Respond to student emails and phone calls within 48 hours withthe exception of weekends and holidays. Maintain regularcommunication with students. Use the assigned PGCC email forcommunication with the department and with students.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectivelycommunicate and interact with other employees and the publicthrough the use of the telephone and personal contact as normallydefined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feelobjects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use andoperate various items of office related equipment, such as, but notlimited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and faxmachine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching,reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping,and repetitive motions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and writtenstandard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to presentacceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are aU.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offerof employment. A signed authorization for the release of personalinformation will be required if selected for an interview.
